Hunger Vs. Intention

images (55)

No matter how many people love you – there is always that one person you yearn for with your entire heart… Ah! Human beings! It’s never enough for us, is it? Ever unsatisfied we are! Perpetually hungry for more. This hunger which brings about the greatest inventions of all time on one hand and the darkest, deepest of miseries on the other. This hunger which is responsible for the highest enlightenment achievable by only humans. Why such paradoxical outcomes? The hunger remains same! What changes then? Is it the intentions of the individual that is the differentiating factor? Used for constructive purposes – man can achieve the very pinnacles of greatness. Used destructively, not only does one destroy oneself but also the others around her.

So, the intention is the real culprit… The hunger is blameless!

Pretense…

Our entire lives, we do pretend
To be happy, contented men!
Wear so many faces just to conceal,
The ugly truth of our lives real!
In the chaos – unruly, lawless,
Forget the beauty of the truth flawless!
Elaborate masks, elaborate designs,
Artful talks, scripted lines!
Tangled webs, convoluted lies
Layered meanings, broken ties!
Depths unfathomed, shallow faiths,
Hungry faces, painted wraiths!

Oh! Where is the serenity of the pure faced?
Where is the beauty of the simply laced?
Why so blinded with the dazzling lights?
Where is the yearning for pristine sights?
Oh! You foolish, foolish man!
From the fire, into the frying pan!
Keep jumping, hopping all the while,
Why not tarry in the last mile?
Unmask your face now the ball has ended,
The masquerade’s done, all trials fended!

On The Road of Life…

image

The road goes on,
You travel along,
Run, walk and crawl
The miles with a song.

The road is bright,
The road is dark,
With bumps in it
Or smooth stretches to park.

You carry on
In its twisted paths,
Shadows and lights
In the aftermath.

The road has views,
Exhilarating, dreary,
Soulful, uplifting,
Some vistas scary.

You pass them by,
Your entire being alive.
The endless evergreen,
So pure, so naive.

You pass them by,
So wretched, so conflicted!
The dull, dry lands
All lonely, desolated!

Or you pass them by,
Indifferent to the sight,
Whatever may come across,
In the day or at night.

The end of road,
You see the light,
You either cross over
Or didn’t travel right!

The Pause Button…

Take a pause
From the busy life!

A life which has no time
To stop and wonder,
About the mysterious world around us,
A life which can no longer ponder,
On the velvet of the starry night sky.

Dreams were meant to be adventures,
In many parallel worlds of existence,
Alas! We grew up into cold-hearted adults,
We made our dreams our bane of existence.

Gave up our curiosity and innocence,
We became the demons of realism,
It’s good to be practical,
But what cost is the loss of our clean hands?

We who were so passionate, so driven,
Could scale the highest mountain for sheer fun!
Now we are bowed down by,
Lifeless bodies of our own ambition.

So take a pause,
From the busy life.
Enjoy the smile of a newborn,
Feel the touch of a loved one,
The serenity of the early dawn.
The gratitude of the helpless one,
The cool fingers of winter wind,
The playfulness of the grassy green,
Take a pause to just breathe in,
An imperfect life full of Him!

Sultry Summer…

summer

Sultry summer,
You make me sweat,
You make me yearn,
For the coolness of rain.

Sultry summer,
The haze is in the air,
The heat everywhere,
Red dust arises.

Sultry summer,
You renew the world,
An end of the old life,
You usher in a new one.

Sultry summer,
You take away the tiredness of the year,
You give birth to new dreams,
New hopes you bring at the end of May.

Sultry summer,
I always hated your show,
Heat, dirt, dust and flies,
Always cursed for you to go!

Sultry summer,
But now I know,
You sustain the life,
From the word go!

An Evensong…

The sun goes down,
The stars peep out,
Ocean waves get high,
The moon calls by.

The breeze cools down,
All mellow sounds now,
Twinkling lights crop up,
In the distance!

The birds fly away,
To their well-earned rest,
Crickets and cicadas,
Join in the fest.

Night flowers bloom,
Fade away the gloom,
The moths by candle-light,
Dance in soft delight.

“All the day beings,
Settle in their nests.
Ye tired feet,
It’s time for some rest!”

“Now come back home,
Lay down your concerns,
By the warmth of the hearth,
Tarry your tired bones.”

“In the coze of the dark,
Dream away the night.
In the arms of your beloved
Greet the dawn of the light!”
